Handmade catapult model, Onager type
Model is WORKING, shooting range is approx 3-5m (10-15ft), enough to arrange a siege of a small castle. Model size is 5x3x3 inches (frame size, full size is bigger).
The catapult can use different types of ammo (paper balls, candies, M&M’s, etc), depends on the theme of the battle.
The design is replicating real weapon, with “ropes” and “old” wood. Model is recommended for 3+ year old children or grown-up children willing to do a desktop vs desktop battle. Good for teaching basic physics principles.
This is Ancient Rome “Onager” type catapult. It was invented 250 B.C. The onager, a one-armed torsion catapult was built as an improvement to the ballista. It was used in huge quantities during a siege of ancient castles. Siege of Carthage (146 B.C.) had 400 catapults involved. Real catapults were able of throwing stones 1 to 50 lbs, depending on the size of the catapult. These catapults were widely used during Roman Empire period, participated in the siege of Jerusalem, siege of Masada etc.
