Tamarind is among the recent additions to my pen turning repertoire, but it’s quickly becoming a favorite. The bold and erratic black spalting lines make each pen completely unique. Tamarind’s natural strength and hardness is conducive to a very smooth finish, an uncommon (but welcome!) quality in spalted woods. All of my Tamarind pens will have some degree of spalting, and the photos represent an average pen. Model: Writer’s Pen Pen Type: Ballpoint Ink Color: Black Wood: Spalted Tamarind Fixtures: Chrome, Black Acrylic Refillable? Yes Finish: Gloss – The crystal-clear gloss finish holds several distinct advantages over the satin finish. It is much more durable, and will never need refinishing. It provides a clearer, better lens for light-colored woods and layered woods of contrasting colors. For intricate designs with inlay or small pieces, the gloss coating acts as a barrier to prevent small parts from separating. The “smooth” option guarantees an ultra smooth finish, achieved by a two-stage finishing process with cyanoacrylate, sanded to 12,000 grit, then waxed and polished. NOTE: the grain pattern of your one-of-a-kind pen(s) may vary from those pictured above.
